   First; chief; as, a premi[`e]re danseuse. -- n. fem.; pl.
   {-mi[`e]res} (F. pre*my[^a]r").
   (a) The leading woman of a group, esp. in a theatrical cast.
   (b) A first performance, as of a play; a first night.
