Abruptly \Ab*rupt"ly\, adv.
   1. In an abrupt manner; without giving notice, or without the
      usual forms; suddenly.

   2. Precipitously.

   {Abruptly pinnate} (Bot.), pinnate without an odd leaflet, or
      other appendage, at the end. --Gray.
