   1. Belonging to the school or philosophy of Plato; as, the
      Academic sect or philosophy.

   2. Belonging to an academy or other higher institution of
      learning; scholarly; literary or classical, in distinction
      from scientific. ``Academic courses.'' --Warburton.
      ``Academical study.'' --Berkeley.
