Averroist \A*ver"ro*ist\, n.
   One of a sect of peripatetic philosophers, who appeared in
   Italy before the restoration of learning; so denominated from
   Averroes, or Averrhoes, a celebrated Arabian philosopher. He
   held the doctrine of monopsychism.
