Benzamide \Ben*zam"ide\, n. [Benzoin + amide.] (Chem.)
   A transparent crystalline substance, {C6H5.CO.NH2}, obtained
   by the action of ammonia upon chloride of benzoyl, as also by
   several other reactions with benzoyl compounds.
