Whooping \Whoop"ing\,
   a. & n. from {Whoop}, v. t.

   {Whooping cough} (Med.), a violent, convulsive cough,
      returning at longer or shorter intervals, and consisting
      of several expirations, followed by a sonorous
      inspiration, or whoop; chin cough; hooping cough.
