Cut-out \Cut"-out`\ (k[u^]t"out`), n.
   (a) (Telegraphy) A species of switch for changing the current
       from one circuit to another, or for shortening a circuit.
   (b) (Elec.) A device for breaking or separating a portion of
       circuit.
