   to examine (Metals), fr. ? assayed, tested, fr. ? to take,
   approve: cf. F. docimasie.]
   The art or practice of applying tests to ascertain the
   nature, quality, etc., of objects, as of metals or ores, of
   medicines, or of facts pertaining to physiology.
