Hydrastine

Hydrastine \Hy*dras"tine\, n. (Chem.)
   An alkaloid, found in the rootstock of the golden seal
   ({Hydrastis Canadensis}), and extracted as a bitter, white,
   crystalline substance. It is used as a tonic and febrifuge.
