Mate \Ma"te\, n. [Sp.]
   The Paraguay tea, being the dried leaf of the Brazilian holly
   ({Ilex Paraguensis}). The infusion has a pleasant odor, with
   an agreeable bitter taste, and is much used for tea in South
   America.
