Illiterate \Il*lit"er*ate\, a. [L. illiteratus: pref. il- not +
   literatus learned. See {In-} not, and {Literal}.]
   Ignorant of letters or books; unlettered; uninstructed;
   uneducated; as, an illiterate man, or people.

   Syn: Ignorant; untaught; unlearned; unlettered; unscholary.
