Intendant \In*tend"ant\, n. [F. intendant, fr. L. intendere to
   direct (one's thoughts) to a thing. See {Intend}.]
   One who has the charge, direction, or management of some
   public business; a superintendent; as, an intendant of
   marine; an intendant of finance.
