Malpighia \Mal*pi"ghi*a\, n. [NL. See {Malpighian}.] (Bot.)
   A genus of tropical American shrubs with opposite leaves and
   small white or reddish flowers. The drupes of {Malpighia
   urens} are eaten under the name of Barbadoes cherries.
