Marchet \Mar"chet\, Merchet \Mer"chet\, n. [LL. marcheta; of
   uncertain origin.]
   In old English and in Scots law, a fine paid to the lord of
   the soil by a tenant upon the marriage of one the tenant's
   daughters.
