Montgolfier \Mont`gol"fier\, n.
   A balloon which ascends by the buoyancy of air heated by a
   fire; a fire balloon; -- so called from two brothers, Stephen
   and Joseph Montgolfier, of France, who first constructed and
   sent up a fire balloon.
