   Causing obstruction; blocking up; hindering; as, an obstruent
   medicine. --Johnson.

Obstruent \Ob"stru*ent\, n.
   Anything that obstructs or closes a passage; esp., that which
   obstructs natural passages in the body; as, a medicine which
   acts as an obstruent.
