Scorpene \Scor"pene\, n. [F. scorp[`e]ne, fr. L. scorpaena a
   kind of fish, Gr. ?.] (Zo["o]l.)
   A marine food fish of the genus {Scorp[ae]na}, as the
   European hogfish ({S. scrofa}), and the California species
   ({S. guttata}).
