   Any one of numerous species of lamellicorn beetles of the
   genus {Scarab[ae]us}, or family {Scarab[ae]id[ae]},
   especially the sacred, or Egyptian, species ({Scarab[ae]us
   sacer}, and {S. Egyptiorum}).
