   stieren, G. steuren, OHG. stiuren to direct, support, G.
   steuer contribution, tax, Icel. st?ra to steer, govern,Sw.
   styra, Dan. styre, Goth. stiurjan to establish, AS. ste['o]r
   a rudder, a helm, and probably to Icel. staurr a pale, stake,
