Abaft \A*baft"\ ([.a]*b[.a]ft"), prep. [Pref. a- on + OE. baft,
   baften, biaften, AS. be[ae]ftan; be by + [ae]ftan behind. See
   {After}, {Aft}, {By}.] (Naut.)
   Behind; toward the stern from; as, abaft the wheelhouse.
