   1. Abashed; daunted; dismayed. [Obs.]

   2. Very modest, or modest excess; constitutionally disposed
      to shrink from public notice; indicating extreme or
      excessive modesty; shy; as, a bashful person, action,
      expression.

   Syn: Diffident; retiring; reserved; shamefaced; sheepish.
