Bass \Bass\, n. [A corruption of bast.]
1. (Bot.) The linden or lime tree, sometimes wrongly called
{whitewood}; also, its bark, which is used for making
mats. See {Bast}.
2. (Pron. ?) A hassock or thick mat.
