Bauxite \Baux"ite\, Beauxite \Beaux"ite\,n. [F., fr. Baux or
   Beaux, near Arles.] (Min.)
   A ferruginous hydrate of alumina. It is largely used in the
   preparation of aluminium and alumina, and for the lining of
   furnaces which are exposed to intense heat.
