Calendula \Ca*len"du*la\, n. [NL., fr. L. calendae calends.]
   (Bot.)
   A genus of composite herbaceous plants. One species,
   {Calendula officinalis}, is the common marigold, and was
   supposed to blossom on the calends of every month, whence the
   name.
