Deft \Deft\, a. [OE. daft, deft, becoming, mild, gentle, stupid
(cf. OE. daffe, deffe, fool, coward), AS. d[ae]ft (in
derivatives only) mild, gentle, fitting, seasonable; akin to
dafen, gedafen, becoming, fit, Goth. gadaban to be fit. Cf.
{Daft}, {Daff}, {Dapper}.]
