Desperation \Des`per*a"tion\, n. [L. desperatio: cf. OF.
   desperation.]
   1. The act of despairing or becoming desperate; a giving up
      of hope.

            This desperation of success chills all our industry.

      hope; extreme recklessness; reckless fury.
