Ecchymosis \Ec`chy*mo"sis\, n.; pl. {Ecchymoses}. [NL., fr. Gr.
   ?, fr. ? to extravasate; ? out of + ? to pour.] (Med.)
   A livid or black and blue spot, produced by the extravasation
   or effusion of blood into the areolar tissue from a
   contusion.
