Elayl \E*la"yl\, n. [Gr. ? olive oil, oil + yl.] (Chem.)
   Olefiant gas or ethylene; -- so called by Berzelius from its
   forming an oil combining with chlorine. [Written also
   {elayle}.] See {Ethylene}.
