Elderberry \El"der*ber`ry\, n. (Bot.)
   The berrylike drupe of the elder. That of the Old World elder
   ({Sambucus nigra}) and that of the American sweet elder ({S.
   Canadensis}) are sweetish acid, and are eaten as a berry or
   made into wine.
