Expatriation \Ex*pa`tri*a"tion\, n. [Cf. F. expatriation.]
   The act of banishing, or the state of banishment; especially,
   the forsaking of one's own country with a renunciation of
   allegiance.

         Expatriation was a heavy ransom to pay for the rights
