Fondant \Fon"dant\, n. [F., lit., melting, p.pr. of fondre to
   melt, L. fundre. See {Found} to cast.]
   A kind of soft sweetmeat made by boiling solutions to the
   point of crystallization, usually molded; as, cherry fondant.
