   1. A writer of news, or an officer appointed to publish news

   2. A newspaper; a gazette. [Obs.] --Burke.

   3. A geographical dictionary; a book giving the names and
      descriptions, etc., of many places.

   4. An alphabetical descriptive list of anything.
