   fr. Gr. ? knave, a mischievous goblin; or cf. G. kobold, E.
   kobold, cobalt, Armor. gobilin an ignis fatuus, goblin.]
   An evil or mischievous spirit; a playful or malicious elf; a
   frightful phantom; a gnome.
