Magnanimous \Mag*nan"i*mous\, a.[L. magnanimus; magnus great +

   1. Great of mind; elevated in soul or in sentiment; raised
      above what is low, mean, or ungenerous; of lofty and
      courageous spirit; as, a magnanimous character; a
      magnanimous conqueror.
