Maraschino \Ma`ra*schi"no\, n. [It., fr. marasca, amarasca, a
   sour cherry, L. amarus bitter.]
   A liqueur distilled from fermented cherry juice, and flavored
   with the pit of a variety of cherry which grows in Dalmatia.
