Nares \Na"res\, n. pl. [L., pl. of naris nostril.] (Anat.)
   The nostrils or nasal openings, -- the anterior nares being
   the external or proper nostrils, and the posterior nares, the
   openings of the nasal cavities into the mouth or pharynx.
