Palimpsest \Pal"imp*sest\, n. [L. palimpsestus, Gr. ? scratched
   or scraped again, ? a palimpsest; ? again + ? to rub, rub
   away: cf. F. palimpseste.]
   A parchment which has been written upon twice, the first
   writing having been erased to make place for the second.
