Paraphysis \Pa*raph"y*sis\, n.; pl. {Paraphyses}. [NL., fr. Gr.
   ? beside + ? growth.] (Bot.)
   A minute jointed filament growing among the archegonia and
   antheridia of mosses, or with the spore cases, etc., of other
   flowerless plants.
