Periwig \Per"i*wig\, n. [OE. perrwige, perwicke, corrupt. fr. F.
   perruque; cf. OD. peruyk, from French. See {Peruke}, and cf.
   {Wig}.]
   A headdress of false hair, usually covering the whole head,
   and representing the natural hair; a wig. --Shak.
