   1. Of or pertaining to controversy; maintaining, or
      involving, controversy; controversial; disputative; as, a
      polemic discourse or essay; polemic theology.

   2. Engaged in, or addicted to, polemics, or to controversy;
      disputations; as, a polemic writer. --South.
