Pompous \Pomp"ous\, a. [F. pompeux, L. pomposus. See {Pomp}.]
   1. Displaying pomp; stately; showy with grandeur;
      magnificent; as, a pompous procession.

   2. Ostentatious; pretentious; boastful; vainlorious; as,
      pompous manners; a pompous style. ``Pompous in high
