   to say beforehand; ? before + ? to say. See {Logic}.]
   1. The preface or introduction to a discourse, poem, or
      performance; as, the prologue of Chaucer's ``Canterbury
      Tales;'' esp., a discourse or poem spoken before a
      dramatic performance
