Thrips \Thrips\, n. [L., a woodworm, Gr. ?.] (Zo["o]l.)
   Any one of numerous small species of Thysanoptera, especially
   those which attack useful plants, as the grain thrips
   ({Thrips cerealium}).

   Note: The term is also popularly applied to various other
         small injurious insects.
