Vanillin \Va*nil"lin\, n. (Chem.)
   A white crystalline aldehyde having a burning taste and
   characteristic odor of vanilla. It is extracted from vanilla
   pods, and is also obtained by the decomposition of coniferin,
   and by the oxidation of eugenol.
