Vicissitude \Vi*cis"si*tude\, n. [L. vicissitudo, fr. vicis
   change, turn: cf. F. vicissitude. See {Vicarious}.]
   1. Regular change or succession from one thing to another;
      alternation; mutual succession; interchange.

            God made two great lights . . . To illuminate the
