Vinyl \Vi"nyl\, n. [L. vinum wine + -yl.] (Chem.)
   The hypothetical radical {C2H3}, regarded as the
   characteristic residue of ethylene and that related series of
   unsaturated hydrocarbons with which the allyl compounds are
   homologous.
