Brewis \Brew"is\, n. [OE. brewis, brouwys, browesse, brewet, OF.
   brouet, -s being the OF. ending of the nom. sing. and acc.
   pl.; dim. of OHG. brod. [root]93. See {Broth}, and cf.
   {Brose}.]
   1. Broth or pottage. [Obs.]

            Let them of their Bonner's ``beef'' and ``broth''
            make what brewis they please for their credulous

   2. Bread soaked in broth, drippings of roast meat, milk, or
      water and butter.
