Sliver \Sliv"er\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Slivered}; p. pr. & vb.
   n. {Slivering}.] [See {Slive}, v. t.]
   To cut or divide into long, thin pieces, or into very small
   pieces; to cut or rend lengthwise; to slit; as, to sliver
   wood. --Shak.
