Buttercup \But"ter*cup`\, n. (Bot.)
A plant of the genus {Ranunculus}, or crowfoot, particularly
{R. bulbosus}, with bright yellow flowers; -- called also
{butterflower}, {golden cup}, and {kingcup}. It is the
{cuckoobud} of Shakespeare.
