Sibilant \Sib"i*lant\, a. [L. sibilans, -antis, p. pr. of
   sibilare to hiss: cf. F. sibilant.]
   Making a hissing sound; uttered with a hissing sound;
   hissing; as, s, z, sh, and zh, are sibilant elementary
   sounds. -- n. A sibiliant letter.
